500 newly recruited staff of the Ghana Civil Service are undergoing an orientation exercise prior to their induction into the Service.
The orientation sessions started from Monday, 29th October, 2018 and it is expected to end on the 1st November, 2018 at the Nathan Quao Auditorium of the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG).
The orientation exercise will be climaxed with a swearing in of Oath and Secrecy which will be done by the Chairman of the Civil Service Council.
These new staff which include males and females are coming in with various levels of educational background. The head of Civil Service, Nana Agyekum Dwamena, Director of Recruitment, Training and Development Directorate (RTDD), Mr. John Yao Agbeko, Chief Director OHCS, Mr. Godwin
Joseph Brocke, Director of Reform Coordinating Unit (RCU), Madam Cecelia Erzuah and Director of Career Management Directorate (CMD), Mrs Rejoice Dankwah were at the orientation ceremony.
Each of the dignitaries took turns to welcome them into the Civil Service. They shared their personal experiences, general and professional knowledge them.
They also advised the new officers on how best they be profitable to themselves, to their various ministries they have been posted to and the country at large.
Nana Agyekum Dwamena in his opening remarks expressed his high interest in punctuality, self dedication and non-partisan nature especially in the working environment. He bitterly expressed his disappointment in the late attendance of some of the new officers. He urged them to be punctual to functions if they want to be counted among the best Civil Service staff.
He discouraged open-party campaigns especially in the Civil Service environment.
Directors from other Ministries brought on board their job requirements and experiences and as well hints of what is expected of each of the new officers in the various departments.
These Directors educated the new officers on what should be done. One of such educative session held was led by the Chief Director, Office of the Head of Civil Service (OHCS), Ing. Godwin Joseph Brocke. He took them through the mandate of OHCS and the structure of the Ghana Civil Service.
He explained to them the functions of the Service and its core values.
A facilitator, the Director of Public Records Archive and Administrative Department (PRAAD), Mr. Felix Ampong educated the officers on the need for good records keeping. Using some personal experiences, he explained that the basic need for keeping records is reference.
Other facilitators addressed other matters such as the necessary conditions of the service, health and safety, promotions and conversions and leave.
The Induction ceremony will take place on Friday, 2nd November, 2018 at the same venue.
